The Park’s endangered fauna

Fauna in danger of extinction

In the Park, there are 39 species of vertebrates included in the “Basque Catalogue of Endangered Species” Even though some of them do not live in the park, they have been sporadically in these mountains. The species in question and category of threat are set out in the following table:

In the case of those species, in addition to the passive protection granted by the Park’s Natural Resources Management Plan, their population status and the environmental status of their habitats have to be monitored and observed. In the case of the diurnal birds of prey, the carnivorous mammals and the woodcock, studies have been carried out to establish their number and take the necessary conservation measures.
